Rocks aren't just for throwing....

There are some people who find rocks fascinating. People who will walk, crawl, hike, dig, hammer, chisel, blast, barter and dicker for the perfect specimen. They are known as "Rockhounds".

(Please see: Surefire Signs You're a Rockhound)

Here are some examples of happy rockhounds in their semi-natural, preferred habitat

Some Rockhounds prefer specimens in their natural state, while others use rocks and minerals to create things. Rocks can be made into jewelry, bookends, coasters, clocks, doorstops, carvings, vases....the list is endless. The process of taking a rock or mineral and creating something with it is called "Lapidary". Lapidary can take the form of simply tumbling rocks to shape and polish them, to the intricate carving of a gemstone.
